Hello everyone and welcome to summer!
Congratulations! Child Abuse Prevention Month was a TREMENDOUS success!
First Lady Ann Scott CAP month kick off
First Lady Ann Scott launches the statewide Pinwheels for Prevention campaign in observance of Child Abuse Prevention Month
Prevent Child Abuse Florida (PCAF) and First Lady Ann Scott welcomed state leaders, child advocates and local students to the Governor's Mansion to kick off the annual Pinwheels for Prevention campaign. PCAF would like to thank everyone who participated, especially Florida Department of Children and Families Assistant Secretary JoShonda Guerrier, Heartland for Children's Chief Executive Officer, Teri Saunders, Director and Chief Child Advocate of Florida's Office of Adoption and Child Protection, Zack Gibson and Prevent Child Abuse Florida Executive Director Chris Lolley. Students from Jefferson County's Somerset Academy were also on hand to help plant a pinwheel garden and enjoy story time and snacks with First Lady Scott.
CAP Month Event 2018
During the month of April more than 200 events were held across the state to highlight CAP Month. Florida led the nation with the most pinwheels planted! Events by the Department of Children and Families, Department of Education, Florida's Guardian Ad Litem Program Office, the Florida Department of Health, Florida's Department of Agriculture and the Florida Sheriff's Association helped to reinforce Florida's commitment to the healthy growth and development of all our children and families.
PCAF Truck Tour 2018
The 2018 Pinwheels for Prevention Truck Tour made scheduled stops across Florida again this year to provide a visual reminder of the need to support local prevention efforts. PCAF sends out a big THANK YOU to the Florida Trucking Association, Mobile Media Inc. and to more than 100 new CAP Month partners such as the local first responders, DCF and CBC offices who displayed pinwheel magnets and prevention messaging throughout the month of April. It is our hope that you continue pursuing creative partnerships in your communities for the 2019 Pinwheels for Prevention campaign.
New to the campaign this year, screenings were held across the state of the documentary film Resilience, which addresses Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES). Thank you to everyone who helped plan and attend these screening events.  We believe this film has tremendous potential for raising awareness and providing communities the tools to stop abuse before it starts and end the cycle of child maltreatment.
