                                  Happy Holidays!
As I celebrated my one year anniversary at with PCA Florida recently, I had a chance to look back on this past year and some lessons I have learned. One thing that greatly aided my reflection was attending the 2016 National Conference for America’s Children.  Through the workshops and professional networking at the conference, I was reminded just how broad and strong Florida’s prevention efforts have become in recent years.  Our coalition of public and private sector partners and our flexibility in approach make us one of the leaders in the country in driving prevention messages into communities, neighborhoods and homes where they make a difference.  Through our collaborative efforts and the supportive relationships we build, we can help parents grow to become the parents they want to be for their children.

While we celebrate this joyful and festive holiday season, please remember that the season can be a trigger for sadness in some individuals. Recognizing these triggers and having a plan to deal with potentially stressful events or people can be helpful. Don’t be afraid to lean on your own support systems or seek professional help if needed.

All of us at PCA Florida wish you and your family a happy and safe holiday season!

Parent Leadership Academy II

PCA Florida and the Florida Department of Children and Families are pleased to announce the launch of Parent Leadership Academy II. Parent Leadership Academy II is a three-part series of workshops that will develop parent leaders, build a network of community advocates and provide information to strengthen the work we do on behalf of Florida’s children.

Our first goal is to collect information that will help us improve the Pinwheels for Prevention campaign. To accomplish this, we will conduct focus groups across each DCF region during the months of December and January to survey parents, caregivers and foster parents regarding media effectiveness and preferences.

Each DCF region has been asked to select a sponsor to co-host one or more Parent Leadership Academy II meetings. PCA Florida will provide a meal and a $25 gift card to parent participants (Married couples are eligible for one gift

card). The first meeting should take approximately one hour and should be made up of no more than 25 parents and 3-4 staff members.
