Protective Factors Focus
On a recent visit to Partnership for Strong Families (PSF) we toured two of their four resource centers. These centers are located in North Central Florida and serve as welcoming spaces for individuals and families to seek services and support to develop and strengthen the Five Protective Factors. These factors when present in families are shown to reduce the likelihood of child abuse and neglect. The resource centers are at the forefront of PSF’s prevention efforts and their success has gained national attention.
The PSF Resource Centers are made possible in large part by partnerships with local library districts and grassroots organizations, as well as with more than 50 other service providers and community partners. Each center has a full-time manager employed by PSF and is fueled by volunteers, donations, grants and other collaborative efforts. Between 2009-2015 data revealed a decrease of 44-58% in verified child maltreatment counts for communities served by the Alachua County centers.
Casey Family Programs recently highlighted the centers in their 2017 Signature Report, The Evolution of Hope. Click the following links to watch the brief documentary or read their 2017 annual report featuring the PSF Resource Centers.
